Abstract
In this article, we explore Dimension 2 of the C3 framework and our experiences with a particular set of disciplinary concepts and tools that have proven valuable in our pursuit of inquiry-based instruction in the social studies. We begin with an abbreviated discussion of the Cultural Approach, a framework for teaching and learning in the social studies. Following that introduction, we describe a related set of lesson procedures designed to facilitate student inquiries into the Battle of Yorktown, the Treaty of Paris, and the final stages of the American Revolutionary War.
