Abstract
This was a quality improvement project with a two group study design. A convenience intervention group received individualized education intervention about appropriate nutrition during pregnancy, the recommended Institute of Medicine (IOM) weight gain guidelines & Obesity related risks during pregnancy. The control group was derived from a sequential retrospective chart review and matched on four variables with intervention subjects. Outcome measures of actual weight gain, blood pressure, pre-pregnant BMI & fundal height were compared post education intervention. There was no statistical significance between education and study variables except education and first visit blood pressure @ p = 0.04.
